St. Wendelin Parish’s Blue Mass - September 11th

Date: September 3, 2014

St. Wendelin Parish’s Blue Mass on Sept. 11 promises to be even bigger and better this year, and everyone is welcome to any or all of the events.

The day will begin with a 10 a.m. flag raising over Main Street (Hwy. 72) in Shannon. At 12:30 p.m., a 9/11 commemorative float coming from Milwaukee will be met north of Freeport near Hwy. 26 and Bypass 20. The float will be escorted along Hwy. 26 through Freeport south to Hwy. 72 to Shannon. The float will be on display all afternoon outside of the parish on Linn Street a block south of Main Street. The float visit is sponsored, in part, by the St. Wendelin Parish Knights of Columbus Council 12841. The 6:30 p.m. procession with first responders and the float will go from St. Wendelin Parish along Main Street to the fire station. Boy and Girl Scouts plan to provide a Flag Alley.

The Blue Mass will begin at 7 p.m. at the fire station. The Blue Mass honors and prays for first responders, welcoming Catholics and others alike. All are welcome to come and remember the first responders lost on Sept. 11, and to thank and pray for first responders from Illinois and neighboring states.
