Haitian Fundraisers Draw Crowds in Rockford

Date: September 8, 2014

Two fundraisers held Sept. 6 in Rockford drew crowds on opposite sides of town. “A Night in the Tropics” at Giovanni’s on Bell School Road featured a silent auction (pictured) to the rhythms of a steel drum. Four parishes and pastors were honored with Ambassadors for the Poor awards from Hope for Haiti after dinner. Haitian speaker Delane Baily-Herd thanked the audience for their generous donations to Haitian improvement.

At the same time, at Boylan Central Catholic High School, the Big Event also drew a generous crowd for Mass, a shared supper and presentation of the annual Louverturian Award. Louverture Cleary School in Port au Prince, Haiti, benefited from funds raised there.
