Bishop Malloy Ordains Record Number of Permanent Deacons
Date: September 27, 2014
On Sept. 27, the largest class ever of permanent deacons (21) in the Diocese of Rockford was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons. Their ordination brings diocesan totals to 172 (including some who are retired or on a leave of absence), and 152 of those deacons are active.
Previously the largest class was 18 men (both in 1978 and 2001). Seventeen men are in formation for ordination to the diaconate in 2016, and 16 are in studies as the class of 2018.
