Celebrating 100 Years in Rockford
The Poor Clare Colettine nuns of Rockford held a Mass on the 100th anniversary of their coming to Rockford. It was a full chapel at the 8 a.m., June 29 Mass celebrated by Bishop David Malloy and a handful of other priests. Bishop Malloy noted how the first Bishop of Rockford, Peter J. Muldoon, requested the presence of the Poor Clares just a few years after the Diocese of Rockford was established. Bishop Muldoon wanted βa continual beseeching of heaven on behalf of you,β Bishop Malloy said. βIt began (a presence that has) endured to this very hour.β The sisters set up a display of memorabilia in the public accessed hallways and basement area of the monastery and greeted guests in the parlor area.
