History:
St. Peter Church holds a firm place in the history of South Beloit. It was the first church to be built in this little community. Approximately forty South Beloit families had been worshiping at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Beloit, WI prior to the establishment of the Rockford Diocese by Pope Pius X.

The fledgling parish continued to hold Masses in Kent Hall throughout the fall of 1909. On Sunday, January 30, 1910 the new church at the corner of Clark and Hays Street was dedicated. The small building, which had no electricity or plumbing, was the first church of any denomination to stand in the unincorporated village of South Beloit.

In 1915 Father James Donohue purchased land on the highest site in the city and in 1925 the cornerstone for a new brick church and rectory was laid. Both buildings were completed in 1925 and are in present use. A vestibule was added to the church in 1977. The Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary 24 Hour Adoration Chapel was dedicated by Bishop Thomas Doran on September 15, 1996.
